India e-Tourist Visa from the United States

Applied for and issued entirely online. Nobody handles your passport and you do not attend anywhere — you carry the approval and present the same passport on arrival.

What is required

• Passport bio page scan

  Required

  A clear scan of the page carrying your name, date of birth, nationality and expiry date. The passport must be valid for six months from arrival and have at least two blank pages.

• Digital photograph

  Required

  A recent front-facing photograph against a white background, showing the full face. Rejected photographs are the most common cause of a failed e-Visa.

• One supporting document for the visa type

  Required

  The portal asks for one further document depending on which e-Visa category you select.

• Everything in English

  Required

  Every uploaded document must be in English. The application is liable to be rejected outright if it is not, with no opportunity to correct it.

• Return or onward ticket

  Worth having

  Held and available to show on arrival, together with proof of sufficient funds for the stay.

These go to Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs, India, not to us. We never add anything to a government fee.

Decision time: The mission asks for a minimum of three working days. Apply at least two weeks ahead: volumes and background checks have pushed real times out to eight to ten days.

What cannot be done for you

Nothing. There is no physical step on this route at all, and nobody needs to handle your passport.
